Transsex allowed to change name without genital reconstruction

The Court of Rio de Janeiro has authorized a transsexual to change their name and gender used on legal documents without undergoing a genital reconstruction surgery. The decision was made late in August, but only now has it become public. The ruling has benefited Milena Pires Santana, who works as a civil servant. She said in a statement that this will help mitigate prejudice and avoid a number of embarrassing situations, as well as create harmony between her identity and her body.
